I don’t speak Dutch…
In its basis we are a Dutch-based game. The rulebook is written in Dutch and most communication takes place in Dutch.
Out of game the organization is very willing to help non-dutch speaking participants with translations. We’ve had a few non-dutch speaking (prospective) participants in recent years so we are looking into ways of including them without excluding Dutch players that may not be fluent in English.
In-game, different languages are used for different countries. Dutch is the language of the in-game country where most events take place, English is the language of a neighboring country and although most (but maybe not all) players speak English, not all characters do. The same applies for German.
French is used as the elven language and Russian as the language used by dwarves.
So, in game, not knowing the main language (Dutch) will impact your play, since not all characters speak English. Players and characters are willing to seek ways of communication, but it does of course impact play.
For some players this may not be what they want as a larping experience (in which case we may not be the larp for you), while other players may want the experience of playing with an in-game language barrier and finding in-game ways to get around it.
I hope this helps you make an informed choice to decide if you want to explore Emphebion further.
We have a website with both in-game and out-game information, email for official questions and a Discord where you can contact the in-game storytellers and other participants.
